1. Description and construction of a mechanical seal
The basic principle of the equipment is to ensure a seal between two faces in relative rotational movement, lubricated by a liquid or gaseous film at the interface. This sealing device may comprise one or more mechanical seals and the ancillary accessories required for its use.
A mechanical seal is made up of two sub-assemblies, each incorporating a friction face. One is static and the other is dynamic and rotating (figure

). The main seal is formed at the interface between these two sub-assemblies.
