2. Terminology and definitions
In the context of this dossier, which develops in particular the aspects of design, calculation in relation to the in-service behaviour of mechanical parts obtained by welding or related techniques, a logical classification is based on the shape of the assemblies thus produced and gives rise to the following three categories:
assemblies involving the close-up processing of a solidified metal bead (with the exception of FSW, in which the bead remains solid during processing) along elements arranged and oriented in any way.
