3.1.1 Principle and role of hammering during welding
This treatment, which is preferably applied to thick,
full-thickness chamfered parts in C-Mn and austenitic Cr-Ni stainless
steels, consists in subjecting each pass to surface hammering to generate
localized plastic deformation that produces the following two effects:
