The sources of steel defects that can lead to spring rejects are related to :

• surface quality :

  • surface defects resulting from steelmaking (decarburization, local heterogeneity of solidification or inclusion),

  • rolling (faulty tooling, trimming, imperfect descaling),

  • drawing, where applicable (scale not removed, tooling, etc.).
