2. Determining a bearing
The main functions of a bearing are to :
position two parts (e.g. a shaft and a housing);
allow rotation and reduce friction between the two parts;
transmit forces between these two parts.
When a load is applied to a bearing, it is transmitted from one raceway to the other via the rolling elements. The number of rolling elements loaded in this way depends on their relative elastic deformations (figure
