Single-acting pulling cylinder
This arrangement, which takes up a lot of space in terms of length (figure 48), has the advantage of avoiding the need to ream a tube. It is used in press frames, where it is easy to maintain. This technology is well suited to fluids with poor lubricating properties.

Spring return cylinder
Used more particularly in tooling, the spring-return cylinder (figure 49a ) retains a single-acting control principle which avoids complicating installations. If low-intensity forces are required, the spring effect must be taken into account. These cylinders are often designed for high pressures, in the 500 to 1,000 bar range.
