ABSTRACT
This article describes the mechanical characteristics of the pockets-plateaus scheme, where lubricant pockets of significant thickness- in the micrometer range- coexist along the interface and extremely thin films, some tens of nanometers thick, can be found on the complementary part of the apparent contact area . This article then proceeds to presenting the characteristics of these thin films produced by the chemical reactivity of the lubricant additives.

INTRODUCTION
This dossier should be read in conjunction with

, which describes the thick film lubrication regime. In this section, we describe, from a mechanical point of view, the characteristics of the pocket-plate (mixed) regime, where :
pockets of lubricant of significant thickness (in the micrometer range);
and on the complementary part of the apparent contact area of very thin films (thickness of the order of a few tens of nanometers).
Next, we describe the characteristics of these thin films generated by the chemical reactivity of lubricant additives.
