2. Stick-slip
This first mechanism for generating vibration in a contact corresponds to tangential vibration, the origin of which is linked to variations in the friction coefficient with sliding speed. This type of frictional vibration is encountered mainly in contacts subjected to low sliding speeds (which we'll attempt to justify at the end of this section). Saccadic sliding is characterized by non-uniform sliding, consisting of a succession of sticking and sliding phases, hence the name "saccadic sliding".
Before describing this mechanism for generating frictional vibration, it is necessary to present the different origins of variations in the coefficient of friction with sliding speed.
