The principle of interposing a material (liquid in this document) in the contact area to promote relative sliding between the two parts.

Continuous thin-film local lubrication mode

Special lubrication situation where a liquid lubricant (often oil) is present with a thickness greater than 0.1 µm. This thickness guarantees a sufficiently large number of molecules in the film thickness to guarantee fluid flow between the two walls.
