4. Elements of design and use
Due to their simplicity, closed hydrokinetic couplings are used for transmissions that do not require continuous adjustment of the transmission ratio, as well as for assemblies that do not require the servo machine to be stopped without stopping the motor, i.e. without disengaging the clutch. On the other hand, when these conditions are important, an open hydrokinetic coupling is required, although the solution is more complex and more expensive.
Hydrokinetic couplings are still used as safety elements, to limit the loads transmitted to the motor and in cases where significant torque pulsations are to be feared.
