4. Manual gearboxes
Manual gearboxes are gearboxes where gear changes and clutch (dis)engagement are performed by the driver. Today, they are all synchronized.
One way of classifying manual gearboxes is to consider the number of meshing gear pairs involved in power transmission for a given ratio (in the case of automotive transmissions, reverse gear and final gear are not included in this calculation, even if they are integrated into the gearbox).
