5. Defects encountered when welding with a coated electrode
The various types of defect and their acceptance criteria for fusion welding are listed in the following standards respectively
NF EN ISO 6520-1
and
NF EN ISO 5817
. In addition to defects due to metallurgical causes such as hot cracking, cold cracking and lamellar tearing, which will not be discussed in this section, there are many other defects that can occur during manual arc welding with a coated electrode. To avoid defects, welding parameters must be respected. These are generally specified in the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), which in turn is derived from the Welding Procedure Qualification (WPMQ).
