Model of Rough Contacts using a Statistical Approach

Greenwood and Williamson's model describes contact between a rigid smooth surface and a deformable rough surface model, but most real-life situations involve two deformable rough surfaces. Using the model in real-life situations requires a gateway with three components:

• a transition between a rough-on-rough geometry and the rough-on-smooth model;

• a transition between the studied deformable-on-deformable contact and the rigid deformable contact of the model ;

• finally, a method for identifying the parameters of the microgeometric model on each surface.

These three components are detailed in the following paragraphs.
