3. Cutting materials
As with cylindrical wheels, cutting tools for bevel gear hobbing are largely based on M2 high-speed steels. The development of cutting edge equipment has enabled the introduction of overburdened high-speed steels, including ASP 23 and ASP 30 sintered steels, which can be coated by PVD (TIN). The use of carbides and boron nitride remains limited to post-hardening finishing stations.
