5. Application of the tool-material pairing methodology

The aim of this study is to determine, as a function of cutting parameters and material hardness, the evolution of cutting force components:

  • cutting force: F c ;

  • feed force: F f ;

  • penetration or thrust force: F p .

The specific cutting force, also known as cutting pressure, must also be determined. This quantity is defined as the cutting force reduced to the cross-section of the undeformed chip:
