2. Movements and trajectories
The penetration of a tool into a workpiece is only possible if it is moved with sufficient energy. This cutting motion can be assigned to the tool, which is the most frequent case (sawing, milling, drilling, etc.), but sometimes also to the workpiece (turning, peeling, slicing, etc.).
This cutting movement can be :
straight: hand tools, band saw, reciprocating saw ;
circular: the movement of almost all woodworking tools;
complex: the case of certain mortise and tenon chisels.
