In mechanical engineering, Loctite was a pioneer with the discovery of cyanoacrylate and anaerobic adhesives around 1955. The company went on to tackle the problems of thread-locking, cylindrical part fastening and press-fitting, and then various other mechanical part assemblies, with growing success.

There are various advantages and disadvantages to using adhesive bonding in mechanical engineering.
