The specific cutting pressure (K

) is an important factor in calculating the power required for a milling operation, a factor which gives a measure of the machinability of a given material given the geometry and chip thickness chosen.
Specific cutting pressure is, by definition, the (tangential) force required to detach a chip with a cross-section of 1 square millimeter. In practice, this is the cutting force (F
