Numerical modeling of friction stir welding

ALE technique; Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian technique

Calculation technique enabling a finite element mesh to have a kinematics different from that of the material medium being modeled.

Onion rings

Name given to the elongated, concentric band-like morphology of the microstructure located in the core of a joint welded by Friction Stir Welding.

zone affectée thermiquement ZAT; heat affected zone HAZ

Name given to the zone close to a welded joint in which microstructural changes induced by local heating may have occurred. Mechanical deformations are very low.
