7. Calculating the static response of the clutch mechanism
The clutch mechanism (figure
19
) is made up of three main parts: the diaphragm, the friction and the cover.
By pressing on the fingers of the diaphragm and leaning on the cover, the force pushing on the diaphragm is reduced. This will reduce the torque transmitted from the engine to the gearbox until it is completely cancelled, which corresponds to declutching and then shifting.
