1. Gear machining
Cylindrical wheels are mainly cut by generation. Shape hobbing, disk hobbing or end hobbing is not widely used. Disc milling cutters with carbide inserts are available for high-productivity hobbing of large modules, e.g. for roughing large drive rings for cement mills.
The main gear hobbing processes are tool-rack hobbing, hob cutter hobbing and tool-pinion hobbing.
