2. Hydrostatic transmissions
How can we explain the current development of hydrostatic transmissions when they seem to be handicapped by an unfortunate reputation: complexity, fragility, nuisance, price, efficiency, risks due to pressure?
The main reason is a fundamental quality of hydrostatics: flow and pressure settings are simple, independent and simultaneous.
Pressure adjustment enables control of forces, stresses, torques and accelerations.
Flow rate adjustment allows control of speeds and, indirectly, positions and powers.
Other reasons have to do with the very nature of the receivers and their adaptability to the driven components: linear receivers (cylinders), rotary receivers (hydraulic motors) whose size, weight and speed ranges enable them to be integrated into a variety of kinematic chains.
