This section reviews the tool-material pairing (COM) methodology applied to cutting tool machining. Defining a COM involves defining the operating ranges of cutting parameters (cutting speed Vc , feed rate f or fz, penetration ap, ae ) and tool life (T ). Certain parameters, known as auxiliary parameters, are also defined to calculate cutting forces and powers.
