A slide mechanism is an articulated system made up of at least two guided parts, one of which has an end that slides in a groove carried by the other; these two parts, or cranks, can be driven in rotation or translation. The driving part is referred to as a crankpin, the driven part as a slide.

Such a mechanism transmits movement from one organ to another, modifying it according to an imposed law.
