9. Future and possible technological developments
Magnetic particle inspection is one of the most widely used NDT
methods in the world.
Other "innovative" methods and techniques have also appeared.
In many cases, the aim is to automate control as far as possible,
while reducing dependence on human factors.
This is the case, for example, with acoustic resonance, based
on analysis of the spectral response of a part to an acoustic stimulus.
Sorting between good and bad parts can then be performed statistically
by comparing the response of a part with the response of a population
assumed to be good or bad. This method can, in some cases, be a fully
automatable alternative to MT, enabling the detection of open or internal
