Magnetoresistive sensors are classified into several categories, which differ from one another in terms of the physical principles involved. In this section, we will only examine the operating principle of sensors in each of these categories. Some of the sensor types presented here are widely used in industry (anisotropic, giant and tunnel magnetoresistors), while others are still being studied in research laboratories (colossal, extraordinary magnetoresistors, nanowires and organic systems).
