INTRODUCTION
Measurement results are not perfect. Every measurement is subject to an error that needs to be estimated. Indeed, many decisions are based directly on measurement results. It is therefore important to be able to control the doubt we have about the value of the measurand being characterized. The uncertainty associated with a measurement result provides a quantitative indication of the quality of that result. This information is essential for estimating the reliability of a measurement result.
