7. Application example in the reflective field
Tall urban vegetation provides a number of ecosystem services, reducing the effects of urban heat islands, enhancing biodiversity and improving air quality. In order to fully understand these different applications, it is necessary to draw up a regular inventory of urban vegetation in both public and private spaces. At present, this operation is mainly carried out by field surveys, a tedious and time-consuming task. Remote sensing enables us to map vegetation accurately and rapidly on a city-wide scale, and to regularly monitor its evolution over time.
