7. Advanced applications

Multi-element technology was introduced as a means of deflecting or focusing beams. Numerous methods have been developed to improve control performance, whether by specific activation of elements, application of real-time processing or post-processing. Paradoxically, some of these methods involve unshaped, i.e. unfocused, beams.

7.1 Advanced emission modes

  • Full Matrix Capture (FMC)

    This is a generic acquisition mode. It consists of successively activating each element and recording the signals from all the elements on reception: there is therefore no beam formed.
