ABSTRACT
Soils generally contain water, air as well as inorganic and organic compounds. However, traces of metals can also be found, and where there is significant heavy metal pollution, it becomes harmful to the environment and to health. Tests must be carried out before proceeding to the decontamination of soils. The technique laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, called LIBS allows for carrying out diagnostics directly on contaminated sites. It also allows for a large number of onsite, inexpensive, semi-quantitative analysis, inexpensive, which provide a mapping of the pollution of the site examined. This article details this technique by presenting the interest of making on-site measurement. The principle of the laser spectroscopy is then explained. To conclude, the method of treatment and data analysis is detailed.

INTRODUCTION
On a remediation site, decisions regarding the treatment of soil contaminated by heavy metals are taken on the basis of a few costly laboratory analyses. On-site measurements are therefore of immense interest, as they enable the sampling phase to be optimized and only the few selected samples to be analyzed in the laboratory. In this dossier, we present an on-site diagnosis of polluted soils, based on laser-induced plasma emission spectroscopy (LIBS).
