3. CP-FTMW frequency-shift keying microwave pulse spectrometer
Acquiring a spectrum across the entire spectral band of a microwave
pulse spectrometer using Fourier transform is a lengthy process: scanning
the spectrum requires a series of steps in which the cavity is precisely
tuned to the resonance frequency, followed by signal recording and
then moving the cavity to the next position. This process is automated;
nevertheless, the basic design of the spectrometer (mirror movement,
synchronization system, acquisition time) results in a significant
experiment time.
A new technique using a frequency-shifted microwave pulse, CP
(Chirped-Pulse), was developed in 2006 by Brooks H. Pate's group at
the University of Virginia
