The design of a nickel-metal-hydride battery is comparable to that of a nickel-cadmium battery, although the reaction at the negative electrode is very different in nature. The materials used (nickel hydroxide, foam, foil, electrolyte) are also very similar to those used in nickel-cadmium batteries.
