2. Barriers to Overcome

The large-scale development of battery reuse faces several barriers of different kinds.

2.1 Dismantling

A primary barrier relates to the disassembly of end-of-life products. The challenge is to ensure operator safety while minimizing the time and cost of this operation. In France, the NF C 18-550 standard, published in 2015, covers “Operations on vehicles and machinery with internal combustion, electric, or hybrid engines equipped with an on-board electrical power source.” It defines measures to prevent electrical hazards during operations performed on these vehicles, specifying safety requirements and procedures to protect workers from electrical hazards.
