or gas turbine.
Diesel engines are by far the most widespread. It drives :
or an electric generator (alternator) powering electric motors driving the axles; this is the electric transmission;
or one or more torque converters driving the axles; this is the hydraulic transmission. Its current limit is around 2,400 kW ;
or the axles via a gearbox-type reduction unit; this is the mechanical transmission (rarely used).
