When installed in a region where an earthquake is possible, a high-voltage device must be able to withstand this earthquake without damage, and then retain its main rated characteristics such as its dielectric strength.
Tests are generally carried out to verify a device's ability to withstand an earthquake of given ground acceleration (0.2g, 0.3g or 0.5g).
A demonstration by calculation is, in principle, sufficient if it is based on experimental determination of the vibration natural frequencies and associated damping.
