7. Remedies for pollution
There are various remedies for pollution-induced priming.
It should be pointed out that periodic or automatic washing of insulators, frequently used in heavily polluted areas, can be applied in substations, but is inconvenient for overhead lines.
Increasing the number of insulators: increasing the total creepage distance of a chain of insulators, i.e. increasing the number of insulators, is the method most frequently used in areas with moderate pollution. This technique has its limitations, however, as a given tower of a certain type cannot accept a large number of additional insulators.
