2. Functions of a telecontrol system
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) gives the following definition of telecontrol: "Remote control of the operation of an installation, using the transmission of information by means of telecommunications. Telecontrol may include any combination of control, alarm, signalling, measurement, protection and trip means; the use of spoken messages is excluded".
Telecontrol is therefore a function. It is carried out using a tool known as a telecontrol system, which can be defined as all the technical resources made available to an operating team to carry out telecontrol on the installations for which it is responsible.
Any telecontrol system must therefore comprise at least two sub-assemblies: a remote information and remote control sub-assembly, and a processing sub-assembly.
