2. Hydrogen storage by adsorption
Hydrogen adsorption is a physical surface phenomenon that occurs when gas is exposed to a solid. The gas density at the solid surface increases in the vicinity of an interface (cf. figure
3
). This increase is due to the interactions between adsorbate (gas) and adsorbent (solid), which are of the van der Waals type and comprise an attractive term and a repulsive term that depend on the gas-solid distance (physisorption phenomenon).
