2. Type IV tank components

A Type IV hydrogen tank is designed with the components essential for safe, efficient hydrogen storage (figure 2 ). These tanks are mainly made from advanced polymer-matrix composite materials, reinforced with carbon fiber (CFRP) or glass fiber (GFRP), which offer mechanical strength while remaining lightweight. Inside the tank, an internal barrier, called a liner, is in place to prevent hydrogen diffusion through the tank wall. It is made of special polymers or multi-layer coatings.
