8. Structure of a refrigerator or liquefier
The compressor station (figure
46
) consists of :
one or more cycle compressors, each generally driven directly by its own motor;
helium de-oiling, oil and helium cooling system;
cycle pressure control system, which includes cycle buffer capacity.
Compressors and control valves are very noisy objects, so they are either enclosed in soundproof enclosures or housed in a special room. Cycle buffers take up a lot of space and are installed outside.
