3. Method for sizing the safety device
This section presents the information needed for sizing a safety
device in any system that is to be protected. First of all, the discharge
mass flow rate must be determined. Knowledge of the thermodynamic
conditions upstream and downstream of the safety device is then used
to determine the minimum flow cross section A of the safety device
with a simple mass velocity model. The designer thus has a way to
check this last calculation, which in principle is the responsibility
of the manufacturer of the safety device.
