International standardization
Standardization in the Field of Refrigeration

International standardization is managed by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), whose central secretariats are based in Geneva.

ISO, the worldwide federation of national standards bodies, was founded in 1947. It has 169 members (one per country), including 127 member bodies (the other members are either corresponding members or subscriber members). Afnor (Association française de normalisation) is the French member body of ISO, and the only organization entitled for France to participate and exercise full voting rights within any body, to be eligible for Council membership and to sit on the General Assembly.

ISO's work extends to all areas of standardization, with the exception of electrical and electronic technology, which is the responsibility of IEC.
