Radial loads from the shell are transmitted to the foundation via the tires, rollers and bearings (figure 2 ).

The radial load on the furnace, Q , is assumed to be uniformly distributed over the two rollers, i.e. a load per roller of :

$Q_{g} = \frac{Q}{2 cos α}$

or : Q _g = 0.577 Q for α = 30°.
