The interaction between a neutron n and a target nucleus X is most often one of elastic scattering, with the neutron giving up part of its energy to the nucleus on exit.
However, the output path is different from the input path when we are dealing with inelastic diffusion or nuclear reaction (n,x n), (n,γ )... In this case, we note the interaction :
