Excessive deformation" is defined as the existence of significant residual deformation following removal of the load. The load corresponding to excessive deformation is also that for which there is a sudden increase in the rate of change of a characteristic dimension of the equipment for a certain increase in the applied load, i.e. for which generalized plasticization of the wall appears. The definitions given in the [A 843] file remain relevant in this respect.

It should be noted that this definition only makes sense in the case of imposed stresses, and implies that the damage caused by excessive deformation cannot paradoxically be associated with imposed deformations....
