Air humidity is one of the parameters to be controlled in order to achieve comfort conditions in an air-conditioned room: the American standard ASHRAE 55-2004 recommends keeping relative humidity within a range of 30-60% RH. Lower values can cause irritation to the respiratory system, while higher values lead to a harmful attenuation of perspiration.

However, this requirement is not very stringent, and for a long time we were content with basic means of controlling relative humidity. But when it comes to energy consumption, a quick calculation shows how important it is to ensure proper humidity control.
