3. Temperature measurements and reverse calibration problem
There are many different types of temperature sensor. A distinction can be made between contact sensors, which need to be installed in (or on) the medium to be measured, and non-contact sensors, which use radiative information to provide remote measurements of the medium's temperature. This second category is particularly interesting for measuring the surface temperatures of solid materials or walls.

There are many temperature sensors that can be installed in a medium: here we should mention those that deliver purely geometric information (length, volume, angle, etc.), linked to the change in volume of a medium under the effect of temperature (expansion), such as solid (bimetal), liquid (mercury or alcohol thermometers) or gas expansion...
