2.1 Aflatoxins
Investigations into "turkey disease X", which broke out in England in 1960, revealed the presence of a toxin in peanut meal fed to these birds. Studies carried out on raw material contaminated with a mould of the genus Aspergillus led to the characterization of aflatoxins . This work led to the discovery of mold toxins or mycotoxins.
