A genetically modified organism (GMO) is a living organism whose genetic material has been altered other than by natural multiplication or recombination, i.e. by modifying the expression of one of its genes or by adding a foreign gene.
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is the carrier of genetic information transmitted from generation to generation. The gene is the basic unit of this information.
