2. Therapeutic target identification and validation: with cells
Microfluidics can be used to isolate cells (essentially in droplets or chambers), creating controllable three-dimensional (3D) microenvironments for their culture, or to present them with a molecule or another cell. The applications are numerous, whether for the development of vaccines, antibodies, anti-infectives or anti-cancer drugs.

With the ultimate aim of developing a vaccine against human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1), Chaipan et al. have developed a microfluidic droplet system for isolating one virus per drop and studying its ability to bind neutralizing antibodies
